THE next stage of the Northern Beaches Coastal Walk, from Newport to Avalon would create safer links for pedestrians and cyclists while unlocking sweeping coastal views.

Artist’s impressions out for public exhibition show picturesque views around the Bilgola bends; safer access along Barrenjoey Rd and cyclists riding through the lush, green landscape of Eric Green reserve in Newport.

The Northern Beaches Council is asking for feedback on the plans for the section of the $22.3 million joint walking and cycle path from Palm Beach to Manly.

Mayor Michael Regan said the new link will enable safe cycling and pedestrian access between these two villages.

“We’re hoping it will be the best walkway in Australia taking in spectacular coastal views from Manly to Palm Beach which will be accessible for not only locals, but visitors and tourists,” he said.

The proposed design includes sections of shared cycle/pedestrian path, some on-road cycleway and sections of elevated boardwalk and concrete pedestrian path.

The entire walkway, which was funded by savings made during the merger of Manly, Warringah and Pittwater councils, will be complete by 2020.

It was designed to create better linkages to villages and access to transport , particularly the B-Line bus service.

It was part of a wider $32.6 million infrastructure package that also included $10.3 million for inclusive and active playgrounds for children of all abilities.
