A NEW chief executive officer of the Northern Beaches Council is expected to be announced on Tuesday night.
An extraordinary meeting of the council has been scheduled at the Dee Why chambers for councillors to give their approval on the preferred candidate.
The decision on a replacement for the former boss Mark Ferguson will be made behind closed doors. It follows an exhaustive selection process since Mr Ferguson and the council agreed on a more than 38-week payout of his $480,000 salary on March 7.
More than 100 people applied for the position, advertised through job agency Derwent Executive.
Planning general manager David Kerr, corporate general manager Helen Lever and environment general manager Ben Taylor have been acting in the CEO on a monthly rotation.
A shortlist of six candidates was interviewed by the council’s selection panel — made up of six councillors — three weeks ago. A Mayoral Minute put forward by Mayor Michael Regan at the June 26 meeting was withdrawn at the eleventh hour with the council unable to finalise the selection process.
At that time Cr Regan wrote to all councillors and staff to say: “the process is still continuing” and he was not able to make an announcement.
