A CHIEF executive officer of the Northern Beaches Council was expected to be chosen on Tuesday night but a mayoral minute to go before the council was withdrawn earlier in the day.
In an email sent to all councillors and council staff, Mayor Michael Regan said: “As you know I was planning to make a recommendation to you at tonight’s council meeting on our preferred candidate but as the process is still continuing I am not in a position to do so just yet.
“As such I am withdrawing the mayoral minute.”
Cr Regan was contacted but declined to comment.
More than 100 people applied for the position, which is likely to pay about $500,000.
Former CEO Mark Ferguson was on a package of about $480,000.
A shortlist of six candidates was interviewed a fortnight ago and it was believed a preferred CEO had been chosen.
Councillors will have to hold an extraordinary meeting to select a CEO, with the meeting in July cancelled due to the NSW Local Government Conference.
