A taste of Hollywood is set to land on the northern beaches.
Acting superstar Mark Walhberg — and his two brothers — will open one of their Wahlburgers hamburger restaurants at Manly his summer.
The casual eatery, with a sports bar, will take over the ground floor of the current Manly Greenhouse restaurant and nightspot on South Steyne, just metres from The Corso.
And there are plans for two more Wahlburgers — at Warriewood and Dee Why — down the track.
Northern beaches entertainment entrepreneurs, Roy Mustaca and his son Sam — famous for their chain of United Cinema movie houses — have the Australian and New Zealand Wahlburgers’ franchise rights.
The Mustacas have already opened a Wahlburgers at their United Opera Quays cinema at East Circular Quay. It started serving customers in February.
They bought the Manly Greenhouse two weeks ago.
As well as Manly, plans have been drawn up to open outlets at the family’s cinema complex at Warriewood.
Sam Mustaca also confirmed on Monday they have secured premises for another Wahlburgers in Howard Ave, Dee Why.
The family has also announced it wants outlets at Byron Bay, Surfers Paradise and Perth as well as Auckland in New Zealand.
Mark Wahlberg, his acting brother Donnie and chef brother Paul now have 60 Wahlburgers locations throughout North America and Europe.
Paul Wahlberg will be in Sydney this week to check out the franchise’s expansion plans in Australia and New Zealand.
Sam Mustaca, who is CEO of United Cinemas and managing the Wahlburgers’ expansion, said on Monday that the gourmet burger joint should be on the ground floor of the Manly Greenhouse building by December this year.
A final decision hasn’t been made on what will be accommodated on the other two floors, but it is likely there will be rooftop bar.
“It will still operate as the Greenhouse until we press go on Wahlburgers later in the year,” Mr Mustaca said.
“The DA for the Wahlburgers at Warriewood is with the council and we want to be where the families are at Dee Why.
“Wahlburgers is a true, family-orientated experience and there is not a lot on offer in Manly for families at the moment.”
“The family has always wanted a venue in Manly.”
Mr Mustaca said he was looking at integrating a “boutique one-screen cinema experience” at the Dee Why outlet.
The franchise’s Australian menu includes a few local delicacies including a “crispy schnitty”, “Aussie Brekkie” and cheese toasties.
Paul Wahlberg has even invented a Vegemite aioli for local tastes.
Even though it’s a an American-style gourmet burger place, customers can add beetroot, egg and pineapple to their burgers.
Paul Wahlberg will be talking to fans at Wahlburgers Opera Quays on Friday, July 29, between 5pm and 8pm.
