Next month Coles is set to unveil its new look Manly Peninsular store after getting a multimillion-dollar revamp with new features including a pick-and-mix bar just for dogs.

It will also boast a new deli and a macaron, mini gelato and Japanese mochi ice cream parlour.

A coles spokesman said the supermarket has been designed to offer a modern shopping experience for time-poor working professionals with more check-outs that will significantly reduce wait times.

It comes as Coles Group Limited submitted a development application to Northern Beaches Council last week for $3.6m in alterations and additions to its Manly Corso store.

Documents on the council’s website show the corporation is seeking to increase its foot traffic and revenue on the northern beaches.

Further, it’s been touted as a project which will bring more jobs to the area during construction.

“Our new state-of-the-art Coles supermarket at Manly Corso will create new local retail and construction jobs, as well as offer more choice, great value and an enhanced shopping experience for residents in Manly,” a Coles spokesman said.

“The new store will open later this year after a brief closure, representing a multimillion-dollar investment in The Northern Beaches, following the current refurbishment of the Coles Manly Peninsula store.”

The works for the Corso supermarket will include demolition and removal of various existing shop fittings and fixtures and internal refurbishment works, such as, repainting, the installation of a new floor, wall, ceilings and finishes, lighting upgrades, and relocation of the existing checkout area.

The supermarket site is on the ground floor within a 7-storey mixed use building made up of commercial, retail, office space and 60 residential apartments.

According to planning documents the store is registered as part of a larger heritage listing which includes other buildings located along The Corso and is also within the Manly Town Centre Conservation Area.

However, documents lodged on behalf of Coles Group Limited claims it will not have an impact on any heritage features, stating “The proposed alterations relate entirely to the interior features of the store and will not result in any changes to the significant features of the building including the existing brickwork and colour scheme.”

Coles has also said the upgrades are touted to “improve the amenity of the store and create a more ergonomic shopping experience for customers”.

The Manly peninsula supermarket will reveal its new look to shoppers in mid-October.
