Concerns that an 18-year-old northern beaches man was armed with a high-powered handgun prompted police to call in the riot squad to stop a car in Manly today.
Detectives had been told that the man was in possession of a Glock pistol similar to those used by NSW Police.
A police spokesman said because the arrest was a potentially dangerous situation, detectives called in specialist Public Order and Riot Squad officers to stop a car being driven by the man’s mother on Pittwater Rd at Manly this morning.
But a subsequent search of the man; s home at Curl Curl produced a high-quality replica Glock, allegedly bought over the internet, that at first look appeared indistinguishable from the real thing.” the spokesman said.
The man was taken to Manly police station for questioning. Charges are expected to follow.
