A Sydney man with possibly the worst driving record in Australia is appealing his criminal convictions after repeatedly driving while disqualified.
Kevin Jones, who also uses the name Sarmad Jaderi, stacked up almost 650 demerit points in just a few years on the roads by the time he was charged with more driving offences on the northern beaches.
The 25-year-old Granville man is appealing several offences including driving while disqualified, uninsured, and without a licence after being convicted in his absence at Manly Local Court.
On Thursday the District Court was told by Jones’ lawyers that he wanted the case annulled.
A Manly Local Court previously refused to annul Jones’ conviction, the court heard.
His driving record is so dire that he was banned from driving indefinitely in 2018 due to amassing fines of about $70,000, with police previously alleging they were investigating if he was taking demerit points for other people.
His 32-page traffic record previously tendered to court shows the Iranian national has committed 55 driving offences since he was taken off the roads three years ago.
He also has fines on multiple licences from around Australia.
His lawyers have previously argued Jones is not a threat to the community after he was previously charged with disqualified driving in Granville and denied bail.
At the time, police said Jones “appeared amused” when confronted about his driving record and showed “no remorse”.
He was seen on CCTV driving a Hyundai i30 out of his unit block, police said.
The District Court on Thursday adjourned his appeal to be heard back in the same court in December.
