Police are looking for more forensic evidence two months after charging a group of teens with the violent bashing of a 16-year-old boy in Doonside allegedly over a pair of AirPods.

Detectives have applied for a forensic procedure against one of five minors – a 15-year-old girl – who has been charged with murder over the incident in August.

The girl was allegedly part of a group who attacked the boy inside a home where the ordeal was filmed and later posted to social media.

The boy, 16, was allegedly lured to the home by unemployed mum Kayla Dawson, 18, who police claim arranged the attack because the teen stole her AirPods.

Dawson has also been charged with murder.

Police will later this month ask a court for an order to force the 15-year-old girl to provide forensics as they piece together their case against the group.

The young boy died of horrific injuries in hospital two days after being left unconscious in Dawson’s home for an hour before emergency services were called.

The five minors all faced Parramatta Children’s Court on Friday where another – a 13-year-old boy – was denied bail.

They will all return to the same court later this month.

Police previously revealed in court that they were still hunting down others who may have played a part in the young boy’s death inside the housing commission property.

The group, in a graphic video of the attack, allegedly taunted the young boy as they landed several vicious blows to his head, face and chest before forcing him to apologise to the camera.

While the incident is not linked directly to street gang violence, police allege the affiliations of the group of children played a significant part in the attack.

One video shows one of the boys allegedly boasting about several gangs known around western Sydney.

The young boy was laid to rest last month by his family in Newtown.

Having grown up in South Coogee he earned a special place in the hearts of locals who knew him as “the boy with the boogie board”.

The minors will all return to the same court later this month.
