EMERGENCY personnel had to race against a night-time high tide to rescue an angler after he fell onto rocks and broke his leg on Manly’s North Head.
The man, 45, was flown to Manly Oval after he fell 2.5m while climbing down to a popular rock fishing spot at Blue Fish Point just after 7pm on Saturday.
NSW Ambulance paramedics and Northern Beaches police called in the Ambulance helicopter from Bankstown after they determined that the man could not be carried out of the location.
The tide was also beginning to rise.
An Ambulance spokesman said the man was at sea level, just east of the Manly sewage treatment plant on North Head, when he was found.
“Emergency personnel worked out he could not be walked out of the location so the helicopter was called in before the tide came in.” the spokesman said.
A police helicopter was also called so its spotlight could be used to illuminate the rescue scene.
After the Ambulance helicopter crew winched the man from Blue Fish Point, he was flown to a landing zone set up at the centre of Manly Oval.
The man was then transferred to an ambulance and driven to Northern Beaches Hospital in a stable condition.
Police had to ask a number of children to leave the oval to allow the helicopter to land around 10pm.
