Fire investigators are examining the cause of a blaze that badly damaged a home on the northern beaches on Tuesday.
The fire broke out in the bedroom of the single-storey home at Forestville at about 10.30am.
Three Fire and Rescue NSW brigades — Forestville, Dee Why and Willoughby — were called to the house in Violet Ave, along with an ambulance and police.
No one was home at the time.
Fire and Rescue spokesman Scott Dodson said when firefighters arrived smoke was billowing from the bedroom.
“They were able to quickly gain entry to the premises and extinguish the fire with one hose line,’ Superintendent Dodson said.
“The fire was contained to the bedroom.”
Superintendent Dodson confirmed that officers from Fire and Rescue’s Fire Investigation and Research Unit would be examining the cause of the blaze.
He also said that with Fire and Rescue crews attending multiple house fires over recent weeks, the Forestville fire was a timely reminder for residents to develop their fire escape plan.
“Now is the time for residents to check they have a working smoke alarm and that all members of the family have an awareness of calling Triple Zero (000) in an emergency” he said.
