An award-winning fishmonger has announced plans to open a restaurant at the former home of Manly’s McDonald’s.
Sydney Fresh Seafood, which has fresh retail stores in Harris Farms across the city, has submitted plans to open at Manly Wharf.
If approved it would replace the McDonald’s outlet, which closed after 18 years in July.
DA documents lodged with Northern Beaches Council reveal Sydney Fresh Seafood boss Paul Papacosta wants to create a 56-seat restaurant called Fish and Lemonade.
As well as the 20 internal seats and 36 outdoor, the restaurant would offer a takeaway service, the documents state.
The estimated $1.08 million works include a complete fit-out of the kitchen facilities and new signage.
Mr Papacosta proposes operating the restaurant from 9am to 12 midnight Monday to Sunday.
He has said he will also seek to apply for an on-premises licence to sell alcohol.
The company, established by the Papacosta family in 1976, is one of Sydney’s most respected fishmongers operating out of Harris Farms stores across the city, including at Manly.
The proposed restaurant is the company’s first step in expanding their business to the hospitality sector, the DA states.
The menu is expected to be influenced by the family’s Greek Cypriot heritage.
The family has been contacted for comment.
Northern Beaches Council will decide on the application in the coming months.
