Parents, pupils and teachers have got their first look at what the new and improved Brookvale Public School will look like.
The Department Of Education has submitted a development application for major works at the Old Pittwater Rd site.
The $2.2 million plans include a new school hall and the conversion of the existing hall into an additional two classrooms.
The new hall will be in the northeastern corner of the site and will feature a huge performance space, storage, an office, kitchenette, sound room and toilets.
It will be used for plays, school gatherings, sports and will also be open to the community outside of school hours.
The existing school hall will be transformed into two “innovative learning environments” or classrooms.
These have been designed to be flexible spaces that incorporate a variety of technology.
They can be adapted to be used for lecture-style teaching or more informal and smaller lessons.
Three trees and a toilet block will be demolished to make way for the development.
Principal Bev Maunder said she hoped work will start sometime this year.
“It still needs to get past DA stage so it could get drawn out but I hope work will start this year.
“The school is growing and this will be a fantastic addition to our facilities.
“The hall will also be available for community use as well.”
The school will remain open while the work is being carried out.
The Department Of Education initially scheduled work to be finished this year but that looks set to be moved back.
