Pet owners fear a dog hater is using poisoned baits to target pooches on the northern beaches.

A piece of processed dog food stuffed with poison slug pellets was thrown over the front fence of a home in Mona Vale on Sunday.

It was the third piece of contaminated meat tossed into gardens around the western side of Mona Vale and southern end of Bayview recently.

Andrew Miller said their border collie/kelpie cross puppy, Coco, had to be taken to a vet after she found meat impregnated with poison pellets that had been thrown into their backyard.

On Sunday, Deborah Kennedy saw her nine-week-old pharaoh hound puppy, Pearl, sniffing at a piece of processed dog food containing a number of pellets.

The bait, about 5cms in diameter had been thrown into her front yard.

“We’re not the only ones around here to find these baits on our property,” Ms Kennedy said. “Our neighbour had two of them a while back — one on the back veranda and one in their pool.

“It’s terrible, it’s criminal and we are all scared.”

Mr Miller said his son Sebastian’s pup, Coco, found meat impregnated with slug pellets in their backyard several month ago.

“The pellets were inside a piece of a processed meat roll for dogs,” Mr Miller said. “It is pretty hard to get something into our yard, so they made a bit of an effort.

“We took Coco to the vet and they gave her an injection to make her vomit up the contents of her stomach, just in case.”

Ms Kennedy urged householders to check home security cameras for any suspicious activity.

Northern Beaches Police said residents who believe an attempt has been made to poison their dogs should contact police immediately.
