Police are still working out whether a driver should be charged after a two-year-old boy was hit by a car and badly hurt while crossing at a set of traffic lights on the northern beaches.
The boy, was struck by the vehicle while crossing Fisher Rd, at the intersection with Regent St’ Dee Why, with an adult.
One witness said they saw the boy under the car for a short time.
Police said the Nissan X-Trail, driven by a 41-year-old woman, turned from Regent St into Fisher Rd, at a set of traffic lights when the boy was hit.
Three ambulances were sent to the scene, close to the Fisher Rd Convenience Store.
The child was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick with a police escort. Transport authorities made sure the convoy was given green traffic lights for the whole journey.
The incident occurred near Dee Why Public School and the Dee Why Childrens Centre.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said the boy was crossing the road about 4.45pm on Wednesday when he was hit by the car.
“Paramedics treated the boy for concussion,” the spokesman said.
“He was drowsy and had a large bump to his head.”
A Northern Beaches Police spokesman said the boy was conscious and breathing when emergency services arrived.
“He also had some scratches and bruises and was complaining of a sore neck,” the spokesman said.
Police are still determining whether the driver was at fault.
