A tradie from Sydney’s northern beaches who turned to selling drugs to support his own meth addiction has narrowly avoided being sent back to prison.
Darren John Moseley, 47, supplied more than 100g of the drug ice to multiple customers during 2019 often out of his own unit complex in Dee Why.
His illegal business came crashing down in October 2019 when police arrested him following an investigation by Strike Force Spinosa, set up by Northern Beaches Police.
Moseley appeared in the NSW District Court on Tuesday to be sentenced for eight charges including two counts of supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, which he pleaded guilty to.
The court heard that Moseley purchased the drugs from his supplier, Andrew Spiroulias, and he would onsell the drugs or use them for himself.
The court also heard he would contact customers on a mobile phone before meeting them at his unit complex in Dee Why to sell them meth.
When police searched his home they found meth, $700 in cash, knuckle dusters and an extendible baton.
Judge Donna Woodburne sentenced him on Tuesday to a term of imprisonment of two years to be served by way of intensive corrections in the community.
She took into consideration the five months he had already spent in prison on remand and his serious health concerns in handing down the sentence.
She also ordered he complete rehabilitation and treatment for drug use, ordered he complete 250 hours of community service work, and fined him $2000.
Moseley, who now resides in Manly Vale and is a qualified roof plumber, has been using meth for 30 years and told the court he was selling the drug to support his own drug addiction.
