Bones unearthed by workers at a construction site on Sydney’s northern beaches have been confirmed as non-human, police said.
The bones, believed to be the remains of an animal, were located by workers under a concrete slab on a driveway near the entrance to the workshop.
Forensic experts were working to determine if the bones were human after the discovery was made during construction work at a shop in Cromer.
Northern Beaches Police confirmed that they were called to a commercial premises on South Creek Rd at 10.45am.
Officers had received a call that a “number of bones” were dug up during work at a business premises.
Police vehicles were parked outside a motor vehicle repair business, opposite St Matthews Farm Reserve and skate park on Wednesday night, with uniformed officers guarding access to the site.
Police confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday night that “bones have been taken for forensic examination to determine if they are human”.
On Thursday morning, police confirmed the bones were not human.
While the investigation was underway, the automotive repairs and service workshop where the bones were found is open for business as usual on Thursday morning.
Customers were continuing to drop off their vehicles in about 7 am.
Police said no further investigation would take place.
