A crime scene has been set up after a cyclist suffered multiple fractures when he was hit by car on the northern beaches this morning.
The 65-year-old man was struck while riding on Barrenjoey Rd, Mona Vale.
At about 7.15am the cyclist was riding through the intersection with Bassett St when he was hit by the car.
He suffered a broken arm and a compound fracture to an ankle.
Two ambulance crews went to he scene to treat and stabilise the cyclist before he was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital.
The male driver of the vehicle was not hurt.
Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command, with help from the police Crash Investigation Unit, set up a crime scene and began investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Two out of three southbound lanes of Barrenjoey Road were closed, causing significant traffic delays for morning peak hour traffic.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or have dashcam footage from the area, to come forward.
