Bucketty’s Brewing Co and Dad & Dave’s Brewing to open new 100-seater venues in Brookvale

Brookvale’s reputation as a craft beer brewery mecca is growing with two new 100-seat breweries selling food and drink opening in the next few weeks.

Two 100-seater breweries are opening in Brookvale in the next couple of weeks.

They will join a growing number of breweries that have opened up in the industrial estate and have helped turn the suburb into a craft beer mecca.

Bucketty’s Brewing Co and Dad & Dave’s Brewing are opening venues to cater for up to 100 patrons each, offering drinks and food.

Nick and Alexi McDonald from Curl Curl are behind Bucketty’s, at 26 Orchard Rd.

They will brew onsite and will offer a new lager, English bitter and hazy pale ale, with the promise of more to come.

They will also launch Aussie-inspired food.

They aim to open the first weekend in February.

Dad & Dave’s, already established in Brookvale, is opening a new venue at 45 Mitchell Rd, with a brewery, distillery and a cellar door as well as seating for 100 patrons.

They will offer their range of craft beer, plus their Wildspirit gins and a range of alcoholic seltzers, that are already part of their stable.

They aim to be up and running next weekend.

The owners, Dave and John Dumay, are keeping their current brewery in Chard Rd open where they will brew soft drinks, energy drinks and other craft beers for other operators.

Mr McDonald, 39, said he and his wife had originally planned to build a brewery on land they own in Bucketty, a small suburb, near Hunter Valley.

However, they couldn’t get planning permission.

So, instead he looked closer to home, with the obvious choice being Brookvale.

“We will offer something a little different,” he said.

“We will have an English bitter, so will be bringing a little bit of the UK to Brookvale.

“There are so many expats here it makes sense.”

He said it is lighter than a traditional bitter, so will be easier to drink.

They will also launch with a larger and a hazy pale ale.

A centre piece of the bar will be a table made from timber scavenged from a bridge that was burnt during last year’s bushfires in Bucketty. The bar itself will also be framed with the timber.

There will also be a play area for children in the outside rear beer garden.

Food will include kangaroo and pork burgers with beetroot relish, chicken glazed in their own beer and chicken wings with a thick blue cheese sauce, as well as vegan options and kid’s bento boxes with fresh veg and fruit as well as homemade chicken nuggets.

“We have a three-year-old and it’s hard to go places with him sometimes,” he said.

“That’s why we wanted to provide a play area and food kids will like.”

Meanwhile Dave Dumay, 32, said they were expanding so that people can enjoy drink and food onsite, as they had outgrown their first distillery.

He said they will have a food truck providing meals to begin with, but will eventually provide their brand of burgers. They also have a Dad’s & Dave’s Burgers restaurant in Darley Rd.

Dave and his dad John, 36, launched their business in 2011 and it has continued to grow.

“It’s great that more breweries are opening up here,” Mr Dumay said.

“Everyone is a bit different and it helps to drive people here.

“Marickville has 12 breweries and I think we are up to five now with distilleries and a non-alcohol spirit one too.”

Mr McDonald added that he hoped Brookvale’s reputation as a beer craft hub will attract people from all over Sydney.

“People can come here for a swim in the morning and a few beers in the afternoon,” he said.
