Bradley Craig White, 58: Terrey Hills tradie jailed for driving while disqualified — twice in 45 minutes.

The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A tradie who was nabbed for driving — twice in just 45 minutes — while his licence was disqualified, has been jailed by a Sydney court.

Manly Local Court heard that Bradley Craig White, 58, of Terrey Hills, had an appalling driving record and had now been caught nine times behind the wheel while either disqualified or unlicensed.

In the past five years alone, the highly skilled carpenter who has done work for Ken Done at his gallery at The Rocks, has racked up four drink driving convictions and four for driving while disqualified.

Done provided a reference to White, tendered in court, writing that he was “reliable and honest and an extremely careful worker”.

The court heard that on Anzac Day, April 25, this year, White drove his elderly, bedridden landlady’s car to a pharmacy at Terrey Hills to buy some products she needed.

According to a police facts Sheet, at 10am, police pulled him over in McCarrs Creek Rd, behind the wheel of a red Hyundai i30, for a random breath test. When he was asked to produce his licence he replied: “It’s disqualified”.

Police issued him with a Field Court Attendance Notice to answer a charge of drive while disqualified (second-plus offence). The officers told him not to drive the car and left the scene.

At 10.45am, police saw White driving the red Hyundai in Cheyne Rd. They followed him to his home on Timaru Rd where he was arrested and charged with another drive while disqualified offence.

White pleaded guilty to both charges.

Magistrate Michelle Goodwin said on Wednesday that White “seems to take no responsibility for his actions” and that he had eight previous convictions for either driving while disqualified or without a licence.

“You’ve had bonds, fines, community service yet to continue to disobey the rules, continue to drive, and put other road users in danger," Ms Goodwin told him.

“It’s complete disregard for other road users.

“It gives me absolutely no pleasure … to note such a history of disobeyance of road rules.”

The police prosecutor asked Ms Goodwin to jail White because he continued to drive “with no regard for orders of the court”.

“It would send a message that repeated offending of this type would not be tolerated,” the prosecutor submitted.

White’s Legal Aid solicitor Ann Roy said had made “bad decisions” to drive because he wanted to help his landlady who was virtually bedridden.

Ms Roy said previous drive while disqualified convictions came out of a desire to meet promises to complete building work for his clients.

Ms Goodwin sentenced White to seven months in jail, with a non-parole period of three months. He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months.
