Manly state Liberal MP James Griffin said there would be 900 new parking spaces at the six B-Line carparks and only B-Line commuters would get free access to them, apart from the Brookvale carpark because a community health facility is being built as part of that development.

Commuter parking spaces will be on levels two to seven of the Brookvale B-Line carpark and on level 3 of the PCYC at Dee Why.

Mr Griffin said up to 46 per cent of users of commuter carparks were not using public transport “and this trial is designed to make sure that it is genuine customers who benefit from these facilities”.

“Customers will use their Opal card to exit from the facility where they will receive up to 18 hours of free parking only if they tap on and off on public transport during that time,” Mr Griffin said.

“Those who don’t travel on public transport will be charged for their stay at a commercial rate for the local area.

“While some details are still to be finalised, the trial will start later this year when the first B-Line commuter carparks at Dee Why and Brookvale open to customers. The system will then be implemented at the remaining B-Line carparks after they open.

“The trial could last up to 18 months and may also be expanded to other parking facilities at bus stops.”

The B-Line carparks will be open 24 hours a day.
