An aged care worker from western Sydney has been hit with 72 separate deception charges for allegedly using a ‘vulnerable person’s’ bank credit card to steal more than $71,000 on the city’s north shore.

Daisy Aben, 67, of Blacktown, allegedly used the NAB credit card to take money from ATMs and make cash withdrawals at the NAB and Westpac branches at Mosman, police allege.

The alleged victim was described in documents tendered to Manly Local Court on Wednesday, as a “vulnerable person”.

Police will allege in court that over a 20-month period, beginning in January 2021, Ms Aben withdrew separate amounts ranging from $2000 to $150.

She allegedly made 72 separate withdrawals using the same credit card, pocketing a total of about $71,000.

Ms Aben made some of the withdrawals before 6am, according to court papers.

A number of the withdrawals occurred in the evening as well as during regular bank business hours.

In court documents, police alleged that Ms Aben “by deception, that is, by producing NAB credit card (number deleted) for cash withdrawal, when not authorised or entitled to do so” dishonestly obtained a financial advantage.

She has been charged with 72 counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.

Ms Aben was arrested and charged on January 7, and is yet to enter a plea.

In bail documents tendered to the court, police noted that Ms Aben worked in the aged care industry.

“The offences are serious in nature, dishonestly benefiting from a vulnerable person,” the bail document stated.

No other detail of the alleged victim has yet been revealed in court.

The Manly Local Court Registrar adjourned the matter for plea of mention to Manly court on March 13.

Bail was continued.
