A creepy customer who sexually fondled a distressed 14-year-old shop assistant — and was grabbed by her angry mum as he tried to flee — has learnt his fate in a Sydney court.

Abdul Sattar, 62, of Beacon Hill, outside Manly Local Court on Wednesday, where he was convicted of four counts of sexually touching a 14-year-old female shop assistant on the northern beaches.

A creepy janitor who grabbed the buttocks and breasts of a distressed 14-year-old female shop assistant who was serving him at a northern beaches’ store has narrowly avoided jail.

Abdul Sattar, 62, was arrested after the young victim’s angry mother managed to grab him outside the homewares variety shop and hold him until police arrived.

The shocking details of the attack were contained in documents tendered to Manly Local Court on Wednesday during Sattar’s sentencing.

Sattar, of Beacon Hill, had pulled the girl into a hug and twice tried to kiss her when he visited the shop where the girl worked after school, about 4.30pm on April 17.

Sattar knew the girl, vaguely, from when she previously worked at a shopping centre where he was a janitor, the court had previously been told.

The girl, who was alone in the shop, was assisting Sattar with buying a ski mask when he called her to the rear of the store, according to an agreed set of facts prepared by the NSW Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Sattar put his arm around the girl and “directed her to a different area of the store”.

“He embraced her in a hug and lent in and kissed her on the right cheek,” the facts sheet stated.

Sattar then squeezed her buttocks with his right hand.

As the girl tried to push him away, he said “it’s okay, it’s okay”.

The man then felt the 14-year-old’s left breast.

Then, as she tried to pull away from his embrace, he tried to kiss her again.

The girl, who was described as being “visibly distressed” by members of the public, then went to the counter where she processed Sattar’s purchase. At the same time, she called her mother.

Passers-by called the police and just minutes later, the girl’s mother arrived and grabbed Sattar by the shirt outside the shop. She held him until police arrived.

He was taken to Manly police station where he was interviewed with the assistance of a Hindi interpreter.

Sattar pleaded guilty to four counts of intentionally sexually touch a child (aged between 11 and 15 years).

In court on Wednesday, closed to the public, the teenager read a victim impact sentence before Sattar was formally convicted.

Magistrate Robyn Denes handed him a community corrections order to be of good behaviour for three years.
