A FILM born on the northern beaches has landed four Golden Globe nominations
Movie Lion, starring Aussie icon Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel from Slumdog Millionaire, is up for gongs including Best Motion Picture (Drama), Best Original Score as well as supporting actor awards for the two stars.
As reported in the Manly Daily , Collaroy’s Andrew Fraser and Manly’s Shahen Mekertichian brokered the deal to get the story of Saroo Brierley onto the big screen.
Fraser said: “To get four nominations for the prestigious Golden Globe Awards is just a terrific result for all of the amazing team of people who have worked so hard on Lion.”
The pair of dads were executive producers on the film with Andrew’s Brookvale-based company Sunstar Entertainment co-producing the movie with See-Saw Films, the firm behind mega hit, The King’s Speech.
The nominations bolster the film’s hopes for Oscars — it has already created a buzz after initial premieres.
And the stars will walk the red carpet on Monday in Sydney for the Australian premiere.
The story is about Saroo Brierley, a poverty-stricken Indian boy who was sent to an orphanage after losing his family at age five, and is then adopted by a Tasmanian couple.
But 20 years later he tracked down his Indian village from Australia using Google Maps — and eventually returned to find his loved ones. He then wrote a book about his life — A Long Way From Home.
