A NEW permanent 24-hour bus lane will be installed on Pittwater Rd, Dee Why, as part of ongoing upgrades to infrastructure for the B-Line.
Work has started on the 700-metre stretch between Hawkesbury Ave and Pacific Pde.
Associated works will include aligning the southbound traffic lanes on Pittwater Rd between Dee Why Pde and Oaks Ave to improve traffic flow.
A Transport for NSW spokeswoman said the government was “delivering road improvements across the northern beaches and lower north shore designed to reduce congestion and improve the reliability of all local bus services.
“From early September, several traffic changes are being introduced in Dee Why as work nears completion,” she said.
“Motorists are encouraged to drive to the conditions and follow new signs and lane markings.”
The works will also create a dedicated southbound left turn into Howard Ave and a new southbound bus stop in front of the Meriton development on Pittwater Rd.
A new indented southbound bus bay will be created outside Dee Why RSL on Pittwater Rd, south of Hawkesbury Ave, in a bid to keep traffic flowing while buses are stopped.
An extended northbound right turn bay from Pittwater Rd into Oaks Avenue will be added.
The plans were included in a review of environmental factors document which was available for public feedback in October and November in 2016.
Transport for NSW has also engaged with Roads and Maritime Services, Northern Beaches Council and local businesses to introduce more accessible parking spaces nearby and parking in sections of Pittwater Rd between peak times.
