The people of the Macarthur region head to the polls on Saturday to vote in their representatives for the next four years.

The people of the Macarthur region head to the polls on Saturday to vote in their representatives for the next four years.

Campbelltown has been held by the ALP since the last election in 2015 and Macquarie Fields since the seat was established in 1988.

Incumbent Campbelltown MP Greg Warren holds a 7.3 per cent margin from the 2015 election.

In Macquarie Fields, Anoulack Chanthivong holds the traditional Labor seat with an 8.1 per cent margin.

Both seats feature large fields of candidates from the Liberal Party and several minor parties as well as independents.

For those wanting to get their vote in before the election day rush, early voting centres are open across each district.

CAMPBELLTOWN

Martin O’Sullivan (Keep Sydney Open): The former owner of the Grasshopper Bar in the Sydney CBD and president of the small bar association, Mr O’Sullivan has been a vocal proponent of rejuvenating the city’s night life.

Greg Warren (ALP): Greg Warren is a former Camden mayor. He served in the Australian Army for eight years before studying business and recently completed an MBA.

He is standing on a platform of better local health services, prioritising local roads investing in our schools and fairer train services. Mr Warren has already secured promises of an extra $50 million from NSW Labor for Appin Rd, the creation of a Georges River National Park, and commitments for improved health services at Campbelltown Hospital

Matthew Stellino (Animal Justice Party): I see the biggest issue in the upcoming election as balancing the need for development to house our population growth with the damage we can cause our unique flora & fauna by poor planning or encroaching into Green Space.

It is now well known that we have the last disease free population of Koala’s in the state & the community has been demanding the appropriate care of them for some time now. The Animal Justice Party plan to enact the recommendations of key community groups such as protection of travel corridors, re-establishing buffer zones & restoring food sources for the koalas.

James Gent (Christian Democratic Party - Fred Nile Group): No information received.

Michael Clark (Sustainable Australia): Retired manufacturing industry professional Michael Clark is standing on a platform of better planning to stop overdevelopment.

Other issues include a sustainable environment and population; affordable housing for first home buyers and renters and securing jobs via a more diverse economy. Mr Clark promotes returning planning power o local communities, delivering infrastructure before housing and lowering immigration levels to the long-term average of 70,000 per annum.

Jayden Rivera (Greens):

A Campbelltown local, Jayden Rivera is running on the platforms of free tertiary education, more public funding for state schools and public and community housing, as well as legalising voluntary euthanasia and action on climate change.

Riley Steven Munro (Lib): A Campbelltown native, Mr Munro is a disability support worker. He was educated at St Gregory’s College.

He has worked under former State MP Bryan Doyle and former Federal Macarthur MP Russell Matheson. Mr Munro said the Liberal Party will continue to invest in essential services such as Campbelltown Hospital, local schools and the road network

MACQUARIE FIELDS

Scott Singh (Keep Sydney Open): Scott Singh is a communications professional from Glenfield and a member of Sydney’s Impact100, a giving circle that pools together $100,000 from 100 individuals to generate lasting social impact.

Policies include activating 24-hour transport and developing a State Government vision for night-life and culture where Western Sydney will play a significant role. The party also wants to adopt minimum tree canopy and open space targets across all urban areas in NSW.

Syed Ahmed (Ind) and Michael Allen (Ind): No information received.

Zahurul Quazi (Lib): Born in Bangladesh, and now living in Macquarie Fields, Mr Quazi is committed to advocating for and supporting the community, especially multicultural ones. Mr Quazi is an academic and lecturer.

Stephen Eagar-Deitz (Greens): Mr Eagar-Deitz has an extensive background in environmental care.

He was previously a senior detective with investigative units and bush fire investigation units in unison with the NSW Rural Fire Service and NSW Police. He lists domestic violence against women, forestry logging, housing affordability and continued damage to our koala population as key issues.

Anoulack Chanthivong (ALP): A former Campbelltown mayor, Mr Chanthivong graduated from the University of Sydney and the London School of Economics.
