The devastating toll of bushfires on the Wollondilly area has been revealed, with more than 270 landholders impacted by the ferocious Green Wattle Creek fire.
Wollondilly Council has revealed 15 homes were destroyed completely by the fires, with a further 16 homes suffering extensive damage.
Eleven facilities were either destroyed or damaged while 66 outbuildings were destroyed. A further 45 outbuildings suffered significant damage.
Wollondilly Mayor Matthew Deeth said council was committed to doing everything possible to help the community rebuild.
“Our heart goes out to all our residents and businesses affected by the fires,” he said.
“The priority of all Wollondilly councillors is to do everything we can to help minimise financial burdens for our fire affected residents and assist them to recover as quickly as possible.”
Almost half a million dollars in planning and building fees are proposed to be waived by Wollondilly Council, to support the residents most critically impacted.
An extraordinary meeting is also planned to consider further bushfire relief and recovery proposals, such as rate relief and the allocation of the one million dollar Commonwealth bushfire recovery grant.
