Why I love my suburb is a new series written by Sydneysiders. Singer and former The Voice winner Alfie Arcuri tells why he is grateful to have grown up in Camden.

When did you move to this suburb?

I moved to Camden when I was in year six, so probably around 20 years ago!

What do you like most about living there?

I love the space, the fresh air and the people! There is something so special about coming home everytime. Whether it be from the city or interstate or on holidays, Camden always feels like home.

What do you enjoy doing on the weekend?

I love going for walks around river/bike tracks in Camden! That’s something I love to do in my spare time

What is your favourite cafe/restaurant/bar and why?

Squeeze and grind! I love how the place brought a bit of Surry Hills into Camden...the food, the vibe and the atmosphere are just so great! Not to mention the great coffee. I love spending time there.

What is your best memory from living in this area?

I would have to say, growing up on the farm. I have always loved animals and to have been raised in a farm with so many different animals was the best upbringing I could have hoped for.

Do you have a favourite park or outdoor space and if so why?

Definitely the Camden bike tracks.

What do you wish you could change about your suburb?

I wish there was less traffic. The M5 is such a drainer, and then even after the M5 all the local roads are so congested these days.

What do you tell other people about your suburb?

I tell them that Camden is so beautiful and rich in history. It also offers amazing food, coffee and lifestyle.

What is the best thing that your suburb offers you?

Family :) I love that my family all live in the same area.

Is there anything else you would like to share about your experiences living in this area?

I am just very grateful to have been brought up in Camden and the Macarthur region. I find from meeting other people who have grown up in the area, we all seem to have a similar sense of pride and appreciation to our community. I love Camden.
