WILTON developer Walker Corporation has denied a deal has been struck with Chinese company Country Garden Australia to develop any part of the Wilton South East Precinct.
Country Garden registered two companies — Country Garden Wilton East and Country Garden Wilton West — in February 2017.
According to a building design guideline document lodged by Walker Corporation as part of its development application for 701 new homes in the Wilton South East Precinct, potential buyers in the new estate were to be asked to pay their deposit to Country Garden Australia.
A Walker Corporation spokesman said the reference to Country Garden in the documentation was an error.
“No deal has been done with Country Garden,” the spokesman said.
“In regard to CG’s mention in the submission, Walker Corporation has used an external consultant to prepare the housing design brief who also undertakes the same work for other housing developers.
“In producing the document for Walker, the consultant inadvertently used a previous document naming another client and did not pick up the error before submission.
“This has now been corrected.”
Country Garden hit the headlines last week after it was revealed disgraced Wagga MP Daryl Maguire was attempting to broker property deals on behalf of Chinese “friends” from the company with former Canterbury City councillor Michael Hawatt.
Country Garden also was revealed to own 364ha of land in Cawdor, purchasing six landholdings since December 2016.
A spokesman for Country Garden said the company had no landholdings at Wilton.
