CAMPBELLTOWN’s Tim’s Garden Centre owner Tim Pickles had no qualms about taking his gear off for national television to promote World Nude Gardening Day on Saturday.
Mr Pickles braved the cold to appear half naked during a live interview with Channel 7’s Weekend Sunrise host Andrew O’Keefe.
“We talked about how World Nude Gardening Day has been slow to catch on in Australia,’’ Mr Pickles said.
“That is because we have some of the most dangerous snakes in Australia. We have spiders that can carry you away and if you walk down to the river to wash your hands you could get taken by a crocodile,’’ he said.
“The real reason is we don’t plant enough hedges around our homes. Life is so much better if you plant a hedge. You have privacy from the neighbours and with a lush hedge you can garden in the nude if you want to and nobody will know.’’
Following the segment and a Macarthur Chronicle story about World Nude Gardening Day last week, Mr Pickles said he received messages of support from all over Australia.
Mr Pickles said his cheeky TV strip had a serious message that gardening, planting more flowers and hedges and having a laugh improved your mental health and wellbeing.
