Thomas Reddall High School in Ambarvale was placed in lockdown earlier this afternoon in response to an unknown incident.
A Department of Education spokesman declined to reveal the nature of the incident or how long the school was placed in lockdown for.
“Students and staff at Thomas Reddall High School are commended for their response to the lockdown safety procedure this afternoon,” the spokesman said.
“The safety procedure was initiated to ensure students’ safety as an incident emerged.
“The prompt response enabled staff to manage the incident effectively.
“Lockdowns are one of a number of safety procedures rehearsed regularly by public schools and today’s lockdown ran well according to rehearsed plans.”
Campbelltown crime manager Detective Inspector Greg Inger said police had investigated an alleged shooting in the Claymore area earlier this afternoon, but was unaware of an incident in Ambarvale or at Thomas Reddall High School.
