A Tex-Mex giant is bringing its tacos and frozen margaritas to the Macarthur region with construction already underway on the new eatery.

Taco Bell, an American institution for decades with its budget menu range centred on tacos and burritos, will be opening a new store at Leppington.

A spokeswoman has confirmed that construction is underway at the site on Raby Rd and the drive-through store will open its doors to the public in September 2022.

She said the company approached the developers at Emerald Hills Shopping Village, where the eatery will be located, due to the potential they saw in the location.

Taco Bell first brought its tacos and burritos to Australia in 2017 when it opened the first store in Brisbane, and it now runs more than 30 restaurants across the country.

The announcement of the new Taco Bell comes as planning begins on the next stage of the Emerald Hills Shopping Village which will be open to bulky goods retail, professional services, and hospitality industries.

“The new development will be situated at the corner of Camden Valley Way and Raby Road, Leppington in the heart of the fastest-growing corridor in Australia, with the southwest growth centre delivering over 110,000 new homes in the area,” the spokeswoman said.

“With its prime location at a key crossroads in the Camden area, Emerald Hills Shopping Village and its new extension are thus conveniently located to capture sales from new and existing residents.”

The new development is an extension of the current shopping centre which opened its doors in 2019.

It will offer tenants the opportunity to join Woolworths, Aldi, Chemist Warehouse, McDonald’s, 7-Eleven, KFC and a range of specialist tenancies already established in the existing adjoining village.

Construction on the next stage is expected to start in 2023 and be completed by early 2024. The spokeswoman said the developers decided to expand the current shopping village for a couple of reasons.

“It was due to the high demand and successful running of the current shopping village along with population growth in southwest Sydney which is being supported by all levels of government with record infrastructure investments being made as growth occurs,” she said.

“This growth is underpinning the success of thousands of new businesses locating in Camden.

“The expansion is a great opportunity for new businesses and the community.”
