A mansion built in the 1880s and currently surrounded by an 18-hole golf course could be transformed into a hotel and residential apartments if a $107.5 million plan to revamp the former Hollywood executive retreat is approved.

Studley Park House at Narellan has had a rich history as a grammar school, defence forces establishment, a retreat for a Twentieth Century Fox senior executive at the height of Hollywood’s Golden Age, and most recently a golf clubhouse.

But soon it could be a new destination for residents and tourists alike in the region if plans submitted to Camden Council are approved.

The proposed development would see the Studley Park House and dining hall restored and adapted as part of a two-storey hotel building with basement and on-grade carparking.

There will be relocation of the “Army Butcher shop” building for use as a tennis pavilion, the construction of four residential flat buildings up to four-storeys high with new access points for the golf club.

The plans will be completed in two stages and the current proposal does not include the fit-out and operational aspects of the new hotel building which will be submitted separately once the hotel operator is known.

However it is expected peak staffing will be at 50 people with use of the hotel, restaurants and cafe guests and in conjunction with functions catering for approximately 100 persons.

Stage one would see the golf course layout amended, existing defence force buildings demolished, and heritage restoration works to the Park House and its adjoining dining hall undertaken.

While the second stage would include the construction of four residential apartment buildings containing 148, with the majority of two-bed apartments.

Sydney Western City Planning Panel is considering the development application.
