Man assaults police with wooden axe handle, faces over 20 charges

A St Helens Park man has been charged with more than 20 offences after a search of his home allegedly uncovered stolen power tools.

A St Helens Park man has been charged with more than 20 offences after he was stopped by police while driving.

About 1.50pm yesterday, the man, 44, was allegedly driving a Toyota Hilux on Woodlands Rd at St Helens Park.

Officers from Campbelltown Police Area Command sighted the vehicle and attempted to pull it over — however the driver failed to stop.

A pursuit was initiated then quickly terminated when the vehicle stopped outside a home on Meredith Cres, St Helens Park, and the driver attempted to flee on foot.

Officers arrested the driver who allegedly produced a wooden axe handle and assaulted one of the officers causing an injury to his hand.

Upon searching the man police will allege they located an amount of methamphetamine.

He was taken to Campbelltown Police Station where further inquiries took place.

A search of his Meredith Cres home allegedly uncovered a large amount of stolen property including power tools.

He was charged with 23 offences including nine counts of larceny, malicious damage, break and enter, assault police, use offensive weapon to avoid lawful detention, take and drive conveyance, goods in custody, drug possession, and police pursuit.

He was refused bail and will appear in Campbelltown Local Court today.
