More than 500 homicide incidents have shocked Sydney’s southwest – spanning from Camden to Canterbury – since 1995, with the vile nature of the cases leaving a bloody mark on communities years later.
Dozens of horrific murders have taken place in the southwest, with 22 in the Macarthur region, 30 in Liverpool, 24 in Fairfield and 52 in Canterbury-Bankstown, as revealed in The Daily Telegraph’s Killville series.
Killville’s interactive map highlights Sydney’s murderous past, with almost 500 murders spanning 80 years broken down to paint a bleak picture of the city and what lurks beneath the surface.
Datat from the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research reveals the number of homicide incidents throughout the region in the last 28 years, including murder, attempted murder, manslaughter and conspiracy to commit murder.
From March 1995 to March 2023, there were 302 homicide incidents in Fairfield, 299 Canterbury-Bankstown, 157 in Liverpool, 111 in Campbelltown, 20 in Wollondilly, and 10 in Camden.
From horrific strangulations to violent stabbings, here are 20 of the most notorious murder cases in southwest Sydney.
LEONARD WARWICK: CASULA
July 21, 1985
Leonard Warwick bombed the Casula Kingdom Hall, killing Jehovah’s Witness minister Graham Wykes and injuring 13 others. The bombing was part of Warwick’s attack on the Family Court of Australia. Warwick was sentenced to life in prison.
MILPERRA MASSACRE: MILPERRA
September 2, 1984
Leanne Walters (14-year-old bystander), Mario Cianter, Gregory Campbell, Robert Lane, Phillip Jeschke, Ivan Romcek and Tony McCoy were all killed as a result of a gunfight between the Bandidos and Comanchero at the Viking Tavern, Milperra.
The incident became known as the Milperra massacre. In one of the state‘s most significant trials, the jury delivered 63 murder convictions.
MURDER OF ANTHONY AND FRANCES PERISH: LEPPINGTON
June 14, 1993
Anthony Perish was fatally shot in the chest, and his wife, Frances Perish, was shot in the back of their home. Their murders remain unsolved.
STABBING OF NEENA BISEN: BANKSTOWN
June 13, 1994
Social worker Neena Bisen, 34, was stabbed 14 times before being strangled with a shirt at the Bankstown Youth Refuge by two girls, aged 17 and 15. The girls were sentenced to a minimum of 12 and a half years in jail. They cannot be named for legal reasons.
BENJAMIN ANDRES: PUNCHBOWL
February 24, 1996
Benjamin Andrews pleaded guilty to murder after he bashed to death mother-of-three Angelina Joyce, 48, with a spiked lawn aerator, as well as punching and kicking her in the head. Andrews then dumped her body in a churchyard.
SAEB RAAD: PUNCHBOWL
September 2000
Saeb Raad shot security guard Ahmed Rashid, 32, twice during a robbery outside the Punchbowl Ex-Services Club. Raad stole $55,000 after he shot him and spent the money on drugs. Raad came forward to the police six years after the crime and admitted his guilt. Raad was sentenced to a maximum of 14 years in jail.
TREVOR HOLTON: CAMPBELLTOWN
January 14, 2001
Trevor Holton was fleeing from police during a pursuit when he ran down Officer Jim Affleck, who had put down road spikes on the highway just south of Campbelltown. Holton was sentenced to a maximum of 16 years in jail.
RAYMON YOUMARAN: SEFTON
December 13, 2002
Leader of Assyrian criminal group DLASTHR, Raymon Youmaran, shot and killed Dimitri Debaz after a fight at a strip club. Debaz was shot three times in the back in an execution-style murder. Youmaran was sentenced to a minimum of 17 years in jail.
KAREN KRAMER: INGLEBURN
January 21, 2003
Karen Kramer stabbed her parents Tudor Jones, 78, and Della Jones, 79, to death when they found out she had been stealing from them to fund her alcoholism.
Kramer put their bodies beneath the floorboards and sealed the windows and air vents with silicon to stop the smell from escaping. Kramer was sentenced to a maximum of 21 and a half years in jail.
DIANA GOUNDAR: PRESTONS
February 11, 2007
Diana Goundar invited her lover, Rajnesh Singh, 27, to her home, where her husband, Munesh Goundar, awaited. When Goundar and Mr Singh entered the bedroom, Munesh leapt from a wardrobe and repeatedly stabbed Mr Singh in the stomach and back with a knife. He then dragged him into a bathtub where medical experts believe Mr Singh probably died a long and “agonising death”. Diana Goundar was found guilty of murder and sentenced to a minimum of seven years in jail.
MOHAMMED FAHDA: BASS HILL

Mohammed Fahda shot crime boss Abdul Darwiche seven times before his family as they left a restaurant in Bass Hill. It was an act of revenge for the alleged murder of his brother. Fahda was sentenced to a minimum of 14 years in jail.
BRIAN CRICKITT: WOODBINE
December 31, 2009
Doctor Brian Crickitt injected his wife, Christine Crickitt, 61, with a lethal insulin dose on New Year’s Eve before spending the rest of the evening with his lover. Crickitt was sentenced to a minimum of 20 years in jail.
AYMEN TERKMANI: FAIRFIELD EAST
May 16, 2015
Aymen Terkmani used a rolling pin and toaster as weapons to bash Mahmoud Hrouk, 16, who he also raped, during a brutal murder at a vacant home. Terkmani had befriended the teenager. Terkmani was sentenced to a maximum of 45 years in jail.
SATEKI SIALE: LAKEMBA
October 11, 2015
Sateki Siale slashed the face and neck of his neighbour Kelly Ventigadoo, 45, with a smashed beer bottle in a drunken and unprovoked attack. Siale had complained that Mr Ventigadoo was talking too loudly. Siale was sentenced to a maximum of 24 years in jail.
CONRAD CRAIG: GLENFIELD

Conrad Craig was paid to shoot teenager Brayden Dillon, 15, as he slept at home as an act of revenge in relation to another death. Craig was sentenced to a minimum of 30 years in prison. Abdul Abu-Mahmoud, the man who paid Craig, wanted Brayden dead for revenge after a previous incident involving Brayden‘s brother. Abu-Mahmoud was found guilty of murder.
JAMES FREDES: GLENFIELD

Enraged baker James Fredes stabbed his ex-partner Erana Nahu, 43, to death when she rejected his advances. Ms Nahu was killed in her bed in the home they still shared, despite their romantic relationship ending 18 months earlier. Fredes was sentenced to a maximum of 17 years in jail.
SAMI HAMDACH AND ABDUL KARAALI: WAKELEY
February 14, 2020
Sami Hamdach and Abdul Karaali lured Ross Houllis, 28, to a carpark, where they bashed him to death over a pair of fake Apple AirPods. Hamdach agreed via Facebook Marketplace to purchase the earphones from Mr Houllis for $150, but became angry after learning they were fake. Hamdach was sentenced to a minimum of 12 years in jail. Karaali has been found guilty of murder but is yet to be sentenced.
