The region’s newest shopping centre is open for business, featuring a major supermarket alongside restaurants, cafes, and retailers to service a booming part of southwest Sydney.
Shoppers swarmed into brand new shopping complex in Leppington from 9am to see the new centre at 108 Ingleburn Rd with the new complex located less than 1km from the train station and featuring a full line Woolworths supermarket with direct-to-boot pick-up facilities.
There was even a special performance by Leppington Public School students who had recently celebrated their school’s 100th anniversary at the weekend.
The centre also features more than 30 specialty stores, including restaurants, cafes, and retailers, with a playground for families outside the main entrance.
Opening hours for Woolworths Leppington are 7am to 9pm, Monday to Saturday, and 9am to 6pm on Sunday.
Leading the team is Jason Smith, who has worked at Woolworths for more than 16 years. As store manager, Mr Smith has worked with the team over the last few weeks to help prepare the store for its official opening.
“My team and I are excited to hit the ground running and offer local residents a new shopping experience,” he said.
“A huge part of the journey to open our new store has been welcoming 100 new team members from across the local community, as well as 50 team members who have moved from other stores.”
Mr Smith said Leppington was a rapidly growing area and having a centre equipped with a Woollies alongside eateries, a pharmacy and other essential services would make it easier for residents.
He also said it was a massive employment boost for the area with most of the new team members from Leppington and its surrounding suburbs.
Leppington MP Nathan Hagarty, whose office will be based out of the new centre, said the community had been waiting for a long time and it was great to see the shops finally opened.
He said Leppington Village would be the “catalyst” that would help the area grow into a town centre.
Woolworths state development manager Wes Dose said the development of Leppington Village Shopping Centre had been an essential part of its investment in high-quality shopping experiences for southwest Sydney residents.
“We’re delighted to celebrate the official opening of the centre, delivering a high quality and convenient shopping destination that meets the needs of the growing and evolving Leppington community, and supports new small and medium-sized businesses who have set up for their future in this area,” he said.
To reduce the environmental impact of the centre’s operations, the building includes about 650 solar panels generating more than 400-megawatt hours of electricity each year – the equivalent of more than 70 Australian households’ annual energy consumption.
Situated close to Leppington train station, the shopping centre will promote active and low-emission transport options by including 30 cycle bays and six electric vehicle charging bays.
