A man has been charged with murder over the death of a teenager at an out-of-control house party in Sydney’s southwest, becoming the ninth person charged over the alleged incident.
Alex Ioane, 18, died in hospital after he was found outside a home on Chester Rd at Ingleburn with serious head injuries on May 24, 2019.
Sione Taulepa Mayol, 24, briefly appeared at Campbelltown Local Court via AVL on Wednesday supported by his grandmother in the public gallery.
He was arrested by detectives on Tuesday at a home in Ingleburn before he was taken to Campbelltown Police Station and charged with one count of murder.
Mr Mayol was refused bail and will remain in custody ahead of another court appearance in July.
Mr Ioane had attended the party, advertised on Facebook as a ‘70th birthday’, with his girlfriend Lynn Lavea.
Police allege a brawl spilled onto the street from a party at a home on the street, with crowds leaving the party once police arrived.
Witnesses allegedly saw a man kick the teenager from behind, striking just under the back of the head, which saw the victim fall to the ground, police say.
Mr Ioane was found by emergency services on the road with serious injuries and taken to Liverpool Hospital, where he later died.
Almost two years on from the alleged brawl, Mr Mayol is the ninth person charged over the alleged incident.
Detectives from Campbelltown are continuing to investigate the incident and have charged eight other people who remain before the courts.
