A 12-year-old cat who was due to be euthanised has been given a second chance at life, thanks to a kind hearted Ruse resident.

Michelle Halvorson was visiting Campbelltown Veterinary Hospital in search of her niece’s missing cat, when she came across ‘Pretty Girl’.

“The pound had been quarantined so I walked into the vets on Chamberlain St where I normally go and asked if they’d had any lost animals in,” she said.

“They said no but just then I heard a loud meow and this cat reached her paw out of a cage and just looked at me cutely.

“She kept meowing and I asked what her story was; I was told she was a senior cat who had come from a deceased estate and was due to be euthanised as she was unlikely to be adopted and had no where to go.

“They let her out to see me and that was that, I took her home.”

Ms Halvorson said she was disappointed she never did find her nieces cat, but she did come home with a new member of the family.

Her only regret is that no one knows her name.

“I’m a bit sad that nobody knows her name, I even called the carer of her original owner and tried a bunch of names to see if she would respond.

“She’s 12 years old and no one knows, so we just call her Pretty Girl.

“I think it’s so great the vet made the decision to give her a second chance and let me have her, not many people would do that these days.”

Pretty Girl has now been in her new home for three weeks and is settling in nicely.

“She’s quite cuddly and we’re fattening her up a bit,” she said.

“She sleeps with us in the bed now and even gets on with my dog.

Pretty Girl was brought to Campbelltown Veterinary Hospital with a second cat senior cat who was due to be euthanised but also found her forever home.

Staff at the hospital said they were glad they were able to give both cats a second chance
