A koala who was rescued from the middle of Wedderburn Rd returned home happy and healthy today.
Davey the koala, named after his rescuer Dave, was taken to the Avian Reptile and Exotic Pet Hospital (AREPH) at Brownlow Hill, near Camden, last week and given a clean bill of health.
While in care with Campbelltown WIRES volunteer Cate Ryan, Davey was also microchipped and tagged so his movements can be tracked in the future.
“One of our members’ husband was coming home from work late at night and found him in the middle of the road,” Ms Ryan said.
“He stopped his car to try and usher him back into the bush, but when he wasn’t moving the driver became concerned for his safety and took him to the animal hospital.
“He’s very healthy and went back to Wedderburn at the St Helens Park end.
“People on the roads need to slow down and remember that Wedderburn is a koala crossing area; it’s very common for them to sit on the road and that’s how they end up getting hit and killed.”
Davey was estimated to only be about two or three years old.
