Sean Charnley, Peter Whipp, Scott Chandler face new charges over alleged armed robbery at Buxton IGA

A supermarket owner and his partner were robbed in a terrifying late-night encounter. That same night, police allegedly caught the offenders in a brothel carpark.

Police allegedly caught three men with the proceeds of an armed robbery in the carpark of a southwest Sydney brothel.

Campbelltown resident Sean Albert Charnley, Ambarvale resident Scott James Chandler, and Bowral local Peter Whipp, have all been charged over the robbery of a Buxton supermarket in December last year.

Police alleged the three men robbed a supermarket on East Parade in Buxton between 8.40pm and 10.45pm on December 5.

According to police, a 47-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman, the owner of the supermarket and his wife, told officers that they just closed the store and were walking through the carpark when three men allegedly threatened them with a weapon and demanded their belongings.

Mr Whipp, Mr Chandler and Mr Charnley then allegedly fled the scene in a white Toyota SUV with $1700 in cash and the store owner’s wallet, which held his identification cards.

According to a police statement released last year, officers called on the assistance of specialist squads including the Dog Unit and Police Air, who located the vehicle within the hour. Police stopped the vehicle in the carpark of an Ingleburn brothel just after 10pm.

Police allege they found the three men in the car, along with the stolen cash, wallet, and weapon.

All three were charged with robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon however on Friday the prosecution withdrew these charges at Picton Local Court.

Instead, Mr Whipp, Mr Chandler and Mr Charnley have all been charged with using an offensive weapon in company with the intent to commit an indictable offence and robbery armed with an offensive weapon.

No pleas have been entered by the three men. The case has been adjourned until September 2. All three remain in custody on remand.
