A Rosemeadow family has chased down an alleged car thief in today’s early hours after a family member heard his Holden Commodore leave their Lorenzo Cres home.

Police allege the Holden Commodore was stolen about 3.30AM.

The car’s owner heard the car start and got up to check. He saw his car being driven away and woke his father and brother to help.

The three men got into another car and followed the stolen Commodore before it stopped in a nearby street.

The men approached by foot and when they attempted to detain the driver, he allegedly accelerated and hit two of the men. They sustained minor injuries.

The Commodore then hit a number of parked cars and a retaining wall before the older man detained the driver and awaited police.

Officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command arrived a short time later and arrested the driver.

The man was taken to Campbelltown Hospital for treatment.

A crime scene has been established at the scene and investigations are underway.
