Rosemeadow: Man charged after allegedly hitting girl with dirt bike, fleeing scene

A nine-year-old girl was rushed to hospital in a serious condition after a dirt bike rider hit her in a southwest Sydney park before fleeing. He has been charged following a police manhunt.

A man has been charged after he allegedly hit a child while riding his dirt bike in Rosemeadow and allegedly fleeing the scene.

A major manhunt began on Thursday, after the rider struck the nine-year-old girl at a park on Copperfield Drive about 5.45pm.

Police were told the rider was steering what is believed to be an unregistered dirt bike across the sporting field, when the rider rode down a hill and struck the girl, riding over her head and chest.

The rider failed to stop and rode from the scene but witnesses rushed to the aid of the girl.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics treated the girl for facial injuries at the scene before she was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a serious condition.

Following inquiries, police arrested an 18-year-old man at a home in Ambarvale about 7.15pm on Friday.

He was taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner danger, cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle, and fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court later today.
