A rapidly-growing suburb with a Greg Norman-designed golf course, entertainment hub and shopping centre is slated to score a 139-room hotel as more accommodation options crop up to cater for residents, the corporate community and Western Sydney Airport visitors.
Subject to approval, the $55m, six-storey hotel will include a function room, swimming pool, gym, bar, restaurant and basement carpark for 294 vehicles.
In 2023, Camden local planning panel approved a 90-room hotel on the same site off Gregory Hills and Digitaria drives. The new development application lodged with Camden Council proposes another two levels to house 49 extra rooms.
The basement carpark will span five levels and have space for 16 accessible spots.
Earmarked for the Turner Rd precinct, the hotel proposal has been modified a dozen times since 2017.
Planning documents state the extra accommodation planned has been driven by the need for an extra 40,000 extra hotel rooms in NSW.
“It also reflects the local demand for more business event facilities in the Camden and western Sydney area as population grows,’’ it states.
The outdoor terrace will accommodate 50 patrons while the bar, restaurant and function space can serve 100 patrons on the ground floor.
Along with providing more pillows, the development will generate jobs in what proponents say will be in the public interest.
“It provides a development with no adverse overshadowing impacts, noise impacts, traffic impacts or visual impacts,’’ the planning documents state.
The function room will primarily cater for small corporate events and training sessions.
The Sydney Western City Planning Panel will determine the project.
Along with the population explosion, several services are earmarked for Gledswood Hills.
In January, the $147m Gledswood Hills entertainment and residential precinct was approved after triggering a mixed response from residents about the project potentially impacting property prices.
The site opposite Gledswood Hills Public School is slated to turn into a cinema, shops and 331 apartments. The United Developments project will span nine buildings up to five storeys tall and will also feature a gym, a supermarket, an 80-place childcare centre, eateries and shops.
There’s even more happening in the suburb, with a $45.2m revamp slated for The Greens Golf Club, which has lodged plans for a new golf driving range, a 27-hole mini golf course and a two-storey clubhouse.
Developers Wests Group Macarthur is leading the project at the Greg Norman-designed club where 56 driving range bays are planned alongside a clubhouse, to be known as The Greens where there will be a golf pro shop, cafe, sports bar, bistro areas, gaming facilities and a children’s play area.
The drawcard would be built alongside the existing nine-hole golf course at the site, which Norman designed near the Norman Estates which includes 190 homes and a nine-hole golf course.
