Nearly half of the Covid-19 fines issued in the Macarthur region - valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars - remain unpaid.

Revenue NSW data reveals that 815 of 1667 penalty notices issued across 12 postcodes between March 2019 and June 26 this year have been paid, but $660,005 remains outstanding.

The postcode of 2560 which covers Campbelltown, Leumeah, Bradbury, Rosemeadow and other suburbs copped the most amount of fines throughout the pandemic.

More than 850 notices were issued by authorities in that postcode area with 2566 coming in at second with just over 190 penalties issued in suburbs such as Minto, Raby, and Saint Andrews.

A Revenue NSW spokesman said the NSW Government’s highest priority has always been to ensure the health and safety of the people of NSW.

“The public health orders were in place to ensure as many people as possible were protected from the global health pandemic,” he said.

“Revenue NSW administers fines on behalf of issuing authorities with penalty amounts set by legislation.

“Revenue NSW has collaborated with other government agencies, issuing authorities, advocates, community organisations and legal sector agencies through a cross agency working group to ensure recovery of fines is fair and equitable.”

The spokesman said help was available and Revenue NSW was there to support customers having difficulty paying their fines.
