Residents and motorists have made a desperate plea to fix a “deathtrap intersection” amid a spate of car crashes , with residents demanding Transport for NSW take action “before someone is killed”.
A homeowner at the intersection of Pembroke and Minto roads, Minto has been forced to install sandstone bollards to protect his home from cars careering off the road, after several cars ended up in his front yard.
The intersection is well-known for its treacherous conditions “every time it rains”, with locals hitting out over the number of car crashes and vehicles rolling on the stretch of road.
Neighbours said the roadblocks prevented at least two hair-raising incidents of cars crashing into the house since April.
Residents arrived home last week to yet another car ploughing into the front of the Minto property.
Minto resident Debbie Walton demanded longer term solutions including barricades, and the installation of a roundabout or traffic light.
“Council should do something before someone is killed,” she said.
The issue has reportedly been going on for decades, with no safety measures put in place by the local or state government despite “repeated” pleas from residents.
A Campbelltown Council spokesman said Pembroke and Minto roads are state-owned roads, meaning the responsibility fell to the NSW Government, rather than council.
A spokesman for Transport NSW said they are considering options including a potential traffic signal but any decision on potential improvements or a timeline for the work “will only be known once investigative and design works are completed.”
They said Transport NSW has met regularly with key stakeholders including council and “early investigations are underway.”
The Pembroke and Minto Rd intersection services high traffic levels as a key connecting route between Ingleburn and Minto, it’s also located within a 2km radius of seven schools, Minto mall and Minto station.
