THE Macarthur region’s first children’s hospital will be located at Gregory Hills, with the already-approved private facility to neighbour the future $330 million Camden Medical Campus.

The four-storey development will include up to 60 paediatric beds and will be operated by Hermitage Healthcare Group, one of Australia’s leading providers of patient-centred healthcare.

The children’s hospital is expected to offer a range of overnight and day surgery procedures including orthopaedics, dermatology, gastrointestinal, urology, dental and ophthalmology.

Paediatric facilities will be located on two floors of the building, with the other three floors, including basement, to be used for general medical centre uses.

A three-storey car park with more than 200 carparking spaces will also be located on the 80,000sq m site, located on the corner of Gregory Hills Drive and The Hermitage Way.

Camden Liberal Mayor Peter Sidgreaves welcomed the medical hub, declaring it as a future centrepiece of the area.

“I think it is a fantastic facility for the community coming to the area ... particularly due to the growing population” he said.

The $30 million private health facility was approved for construction late last year by the Sydney Western City Planning Panel, which outlined the medical benefits to the growing region in its reasons for approving the hospital.

“The proposed development will provide additional medical and healthcare services to the Sydney Western City District and the Camden local government area, complementing other similar facilities to be provided from this precinct,” the panel report stated.

Hermitage Healthcare Group currently operates three private health facilities across Sydney, including the Sydney Day Hospital, Norwest Day Hospital and Sydney Eye and Retina Day Surgery.

Hermitage Healthcare Group general manager Robert Lin declined to comment, although the Chronicle understands a public announcement is expected later this year.

Camden Specialist Medical Centre Pty Ltd bought the site of the future children’s hospital and medical centre for $3.7 million in 2015.

The children’s hospital follows news that Campbelltown Hospital’s paediatric ward is set to triple in capacity over the coming years as part of the hospital’s $632 million upgrade.
