A Catholic priest accused of sexually abusing more than a dozen boys at a Southern Highlands college in the 1980s has been hit with 13 fresh charges in recent weeks – bringing the total number of child sex offences to 43.

Anthony Peter William Caruana, 78, of Kensington, is accused of numerous sex offences, including groping the genitalia and rubbing the anus of a number of the alleged victims. He is also alleged to have rubbed his erect penis on an alleged victim, then on another occasion forced the same boy to masturbate him.

He is also accused of having intercourse with two male victims.

The string of child sex offences are alleged to have taken place at Chevalier College, near Bowral, between 1982 and 1989 where Caruana held the role of boarding master for a period of time.

The matter was mentioned in Moss Vale Local Court on Wednesday before Magistrate Ian Cheetham, where it was adjourned for negotiations between the Director of Public Prosecutions, Caruana and his legal representatives.

No plea has been entered on all charges.

The matter will return to the same court in June.
