POLICE are warning residents to never give out their home address when they are selling valuable items such as mobile phones online.

Camden Police Area Command issued the reminder after a Mt Annan man almost had an iPhone X stolen from his home in Moyengully Ave by a teenager who claimed he was interested in buying the phone.

Police said the man had advertised the iPhone X for sale on an online sales site.

“Always try and meet in a well-lit location preferably with CCTV and lots of other people about,’’ Camden Police said.

The Mt Annan man had advertised the phone for sale on an online sales site.

He then received a phone call from a person who said they wanted to buy the phone so the man gave his home address so the person could come and pick up the phone.

Police said an older teenage boy with a shaved head arrived at the man’s home on Friday at 8.45pm wanting to inspect and buy the phone.

The resident noticed the teenager had come from a car parked up the street and the teen explained his mother was driving.

Police said the teenager then asked to check the phone’s IMEI number.

The teenager then grabbed the phone, which was still in its box, but the owner managed to take the phone back before the teenager fled towards the waiting car.

The owner chased the teenager and saw the car’s numberplate was covered with masking tape.

Police are viewing CCTV footage in the area and checking the man’s phone records to try to identify the teenager.

Anyone with information is urged to phone Camden police on 4632 4499.
