Following the crash, NSW Police Legacy opened an appeal account, which has now closed, and which raised more than $75,000 from donations from the general public to help the two officers.

Camden Police Area Command then organised a gala dinner which was attended by 500 people and raised in excess of $105,000 at Wests Leagues Club, Leumeah, on Friday, May 11.

Sen-Constable Wright’s leg was crushed by the impact of the crash and his colleagues who applied a tourniquet are credited with saving his life.

Part of his leg was later amputated.

In March, Sen-Constable told the Macarthur Chronicle he and his family were extremely grateful to our local and the greater community, to every person, community group and business, for their support, kindness and well wishes since the crash.

“All the donations, including monetary, meals and groceries have certainly relieved pressure throughout this traumatic time,’’ he said.

Go Fund Me campaigns have also been set up for Sen-Constables Wright and Foley and raised a joint total of more than $140,000 for their rehabilitation.

Following the crash, Ruse car driver Jakob Thornton, 22, was charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm, causing bodily harm by misconduct while in charge of a motor vehicle, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and driving while using a mobile phone when not permitted.

In April, Thornton was granted bail and ordered to reside at a home in Bankstown and report to the local police weekly, not to drive and to be of good behaviour.
