POLICE have started a search for the remains of a murdered 12-year-old girl in bushland at Cataract today.

POLICE have started a search for the remains of a murdered 12-year-old girl at Appin Rd, at Cataract, today.
Quanne Diec went missing on her way to school in Granville on Monday, July 27, in 1998.
She left her home on Seventh St and began walking towards Clyde Railway Station however Quanne never arrived at school and was reported missing by her parents that afternoon.
Rosehill Local Area Command detectives, with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, established Strike Force Lyndey to investigate her disappearance.
Officers attached to Strike Force Lyndey charged a 49-year-old man with Quanne’s murder on Sunday, November 20, last year.
The man remains before the courts.
Despite extensive investigations, Quanne’s body has never been found.
Today, Rosehill police and the Forensic Services Group will begin a search in bushland off Appin Rd as part of further investigations into the possible location of Quanne’s body.
The search is expected to last three days.
Police remain focused on finding Quanne’s remains in the hope of ending the Diec family’s search for answers.
“This process has been an incredibly difficult experience for her family and we will continue to support them as the search continues,’’ police said.
