A police strike force is investigating possible outlaw motorcycle gang links to a fatal house fire and suspected home invasion in Elderslie.

A police strike force is investigating possible outlaw motorcycle gang links to a fatal house fire and suspected home invasion in Elderslie last week.

Strike Force Cavengh has been established, involving detectives from Camden Police Area Command and the Homicide Squad, to investigate what police say was a targeted attack.

Camden Police Area Command crime manager Detective Chief Inspector Shane Woolbank said a number of persons of interest had already been spoken to as part of the investigation.

“This is an extremely serious matter,” he said. “A family of six could have been killed.”

Chief Inspector Woolbank told the Chronicle police believe they know the motive behind the suspected arson attack, but would not divulge that information.

He also confirmed detectives were investigating possible links with an outlaw motorcycle gang.

Emergency services were called to the house on Crank Place in Elderslie about 11.40pm on Saturday May 1 following reports of a home invasion and house fire.

Police were told three men entered the home about 11.30pm when neighbours heard shouting and loud banging noises.

Two of the suspected intruders and seven occupants of the house were able to flee the blaze.

Hayden Forrest, 21, died in the house fire. Police believe he was not an occupant of the house.

It is suspected two of the home invaders sped off in a getaway car.

Police are appealing for public assistance, particularly any one with dashcam footage of the area around the time of the incident.
